What are the Western Wall Tunnels?

The above-ground section of the Western Wall is only part of a massive retaining wall that formed part of the Second Temple on Temple Mount. Extensive excavation revealed that the Western Wall (Kotel) continues beneath the Old City. The underground excavated wall has become a magnificent tourist attraction. A visit to the tunnels is a unique experience, that many tourists don’t even know is there. The Western Wall Heritage Foundation has a range of tour programs and attractions for visitors. For the new Jerusalem attraction, space has been created to house the state-of-the-art presentation.

How to visit Jerusalem’s new attraction?

You’ll find the Western Wall Tunnel entrance on the lefthand side of the Western Wall. There you can buy tickets for Jerusalem’s new attraction. The attraction happens underground along the length of the hidden Western Wall. Visitors pass through several spaces, as the voice of Israeli singer, Avital Banai accompanies the spectacular visuals. Top Israel musician Asaf Amdorski created some of the musical arrangements. Follow the journey of the People of Israel through successive generations. See how Jewish culture and beliefs were passed down from generation to generation.

The Western Wall is the most important Jewish landmark in the world. It is the ideal place to learn about the heritage that has kept Judaism alive for thousands of years. Each of the spaces focuses on a specific historical period, from Abraham to the destruction of the Second Holy Temple, and the Holocaust. The space features abstract art and glass columns representing values, hope, and tradition. Photos taken of visitors as they entered the attraction, are projected through the glass columns, symbolizing the part they will play as the next “link” in the Chain of Generations.”
